Meet The Organizer

A.J. MILLER - organizing expert, columnist, teacher, motivational speaker & group facilitator

A.J. Miller will help you organize.

Background & Experience

I am a former jewelry artist with over
25 years experience running my own successful international design company.

Juggling a diverse range of business and creative responsibilities, I learned how to maintain the proper balance between excellence and efficiency and consistently meet - and then exceed - client expectations. I credit that valuable experience with making a significant contribution to my abilities as a skilled organizational consultant.

Realizing how good I was at creating order, organization and systemization - and how thoroughly I enjoyed the challenge of finding effective solutions to any organizing dilemma - I decided to become a Professional Organizer and bring my natural abilities in line with my life and beliefs. I am fortunate and grateful to be able to affect the lives of others in a positive, productive and lasting way.

Education

I am honored to have been one of 500 woman chosen from a field of 20,000
applicants for entry to Yale University the first year that its undergraduate school admitted females. I graduated from Yale with honors and a B.A. in Art History.

Group Facilitation

At the request of the New York Public Library, I created and facilitate an educational support group for individuals who are struggling with clutter and disorganization. The NYPL Clutter Support Group meets in Manhattan on an ongoing basis to address these issues and offer support, information, tips and techniques to combat clutter and become better organized.

The group is open to people of all ages with any degree of disorganization. Whether you've had a life long struggle with being organized or your problem is more recent; whether you're just a little overloaded, a hoarder, have ADHD or are living with someone who is one of these, you are welcome. Professional Affiliations

I'm a member in good standing of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO), the premier authority in the field of organizing, and its prestigious Golden Circle, which recognizes members who have attained an elevated level of experience in the professional organizing industry. I support and practice the Code of Ethics set forth by the organization and actively participate in their continuing education programs and conferences.

I'm a past member of the Board of Directors of the NAPO New York chapter and also a past Editor of their Newsletter. I am also the proud recipient of the 2008 NAPO New York President's Award which is given for outstanding contributions to the chapter.

Publications

Since January 2007, I have been writing a newspaper column - Getting Organized - which is featured regularly in Town & Village, a community newspaper that has been serving the Stuyvesant Town, Peter Cooper Village, East Midtown Plaza, Gramercy Park, Kips Bay, Union Square and Waterside areas of Manhattan for over 60 years. It also appears in The Santa Monica Star, a community newspaper serving Santa Monica, California.

Public Speaking

It's very rewarding to help people solve the organizational challenges in their lives so they can spend more time doing the things they enjoy and less time looking for their keys!

My presentations are a combination of education, practical how-to organizing tips, motivation, inspiration and humor. The ultimate goal is to inform the audience about simple organizing tools and techniques that can have a big impact on their daily lives. Interacting with individual audience members during the question-and-answer session at the end is always one of my favorite parts.

Please visit our Upcoming Events page to see where I'll be speaking next and what topic I'll be speaking on. To discuss a presentation suited to your specific needs or to book a speaking engagement for your group, organization, company or school, please email us or call us at (212) 228-8375. I can provide quality content for speaking engagements on many organizing-related topics and, as a recognized organizing expert with top-notch writing skills, I can also provide articles, columns and tips for your electronic or print publications.

Teaching

Among other venues, I teach classes at The Learning Annex, a private continuing adult education school based in New York. The Learning Annex is the leading and largest producer of continuing adult education content in America.
