Using a Shoe Bag to Help You Get Organized!

Over-the-door style shoe bags with clear pockets are some of the most creative and versatile organizing containers I know. They’re inexpensive, hold up well to abuse and work almost anywhere you’ve got a wall or a door. The clear pockets let you quickly see what’s inside each one and clean up easily with just a wipe of a damp cloth or sponge.

TIP #1 – NOT JUST FOR SHOES ANYMORE: Hang a shoe bag on the inside of your closet door, keep your socks and pantyhose in the pockets and you’ll make getting your feet dressed in the morning a snap! Also great for storing rolled belts, scarves and other accessories. Hang one on the inside of your child’s door and create a practical, easy and fun set-up for kids learning to put on their own shoes and socks.

TIP #2 – ELIMINATE ELECTRONIC TANGLE: CD players, digital cameras, MP3 players, gameboys, iPods, headphones, cords, chargers. Whew! That’s a lot to keep track of and tangle-free, but the job is infinitely easier when each one has it’s own individual pocket. Just grab and go on your way out the door and park these items here when you return home.

TIP #3 – END BATHROOM CLUTTER: Too much “stuff” and too little space in your bathroom? Hang a shoe bag up and fill it with your overflow shampoos, soaps, hair gels, wash cloths, lotions, medicines, kids’ bathtub toys, etc.

TIP #4 – GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN: Hang a shoe bag up in your girl’s bedroom or bathroom and fill the pockets with her hair paraphernalia (barrettes, ribbons, scrunchies, bows, curling irons, gels, brushes, combs) and make-up, etc.

TIP #5 – A ROW OF THEIR OWN: Give each family member a row of pockets in the entryway closet to hold their hats, gloves, scarves, sunglasses, mini tissue packets, lip balms and other often used items.

TIP #6 – GET CRAFTY: If you don’t have too many art/craft supplies, a shoe bag works well to corral glues, tape, paints, brushes, staple guns, glue guns/sticks, exacto knives, scissors, rubber gloves, etc.

TIP #7 – A VERTICAL JUNK DRAWER: If you need more room for items in heavy rotation around the kitchen/family area, a shoe bag with clear pockets just might fit the bill. Fill it with pens/pencils, note pads, post-its, stamps, rubber bands, batteries, tape, tools, scissors, glues, rubber gloves, sponges, string, extra screws/nuts/bolts/nails, rags, scrub brushes, etc. and hang it on a nearby door or wall.

TIP #8 – TIDY TOYS: A shoe bag is great to keep in a playroom or on the inside or outside of a child's closet door to hold their small toys like match-box cars, small stuffed animals, Barbie clothes, trading cards, colored blocks, etc. In addition to keeping things neat, it also provides a quick and easy way for you to teach them – and for them to practice - how organize and put away their own playthings.

TIP #9 – STRETCH KITCHEN CABINET SPACE: Hang a shoe bag to hold extra packets of dressings, spices and other food items. Also great for mini gadgets like stick-blenders, measuring spoons, pizza cutters, etc.

TIP #10 – THE EFFICIENT OFFICE: Using a shoe bag in your office area can free up valuable drawer space. Its pockets can store lots of supplies you need to keep handy like pens/pencils, scissors, staplers/staples, markers, post-its, etc.

TIP #11 – BACK SEAT ENTERTAINMENT: Trim a shoe bag to fit the back of your car seat and let your kids make their own choices for back seat entertainment during car trips.
