Springtime Is the Perfect Time to Get Organized!

Whenever people ask me what kind of work I do, I say that I'm an organizing and productivity consultant. I help individuals and businesses organize their time, space, paper and information so they can be more productive. Almost without exception, the reaction I get is some variation of, "Boy, do I need your help!" I can count on the fingers of less than one hand the number of times that I have NOT gotten that response. It never ceases to amaze me how widespread the problem of disorganization is. Rich, middle class, poor; young, middle-aged, old; man, woman, child - disorganization spares no one and can affect every single facet of your life.

Coping with the complexity of life today can be overwhelming. We live in a hyper-consumptive society deluged by its own belongings. There are more people in the workforce than ever before and they're spending increasingly longer hours at their jobs. That means people have less time to get or stay organized at home. On the job, cost saving staff cuts adopted by an ever increasing number of companies have meant that the same amount of work now has to be done by fewer people. That means people have less time to get or stay organized at work. And then, of course, there's modern technology's contribution to the problem of disorganization. The myth of the paperless society has become just that, a myth. The World Wide Web, which allows access to almost limitless information, has only increased the amount of printing done by computer users both at home and at work. That, along with the use of fax machines and the printing of emails, has increased paper consumption dramatically. Is it any wonder that piles of paper cover every horizontal surface in sight in so many homes and offices?

Springtime is the traditional time to remove the winter blues from your home and your life. It's a wonderful opportunity to make a fresh start and take the necessary steps towards more organized living and working. The best reason I know to get organized is that it will make your life easier. And who doesn't want their life to be easier? The good news is that it's never too late to get organized. I have clients in their 80s who are getting organized and if that doesn't inspire you, I don't know what will!

Don't let fear, shame or embarrassment get in the way of your reaching out for the help you need. If you broke your leg, you'd go to a professional for help. If your car made a strange noise, you'd go to a professional for help. If you needed legal advice you'd go to a professional for help. If you're having trouble getting organized or staying organized or have too much to do and too little time, doesn't it make sense to go to a professional for help? There's no substitute for being guided by an expert in the field who will calmly help you without judgment, provide you with motivation and keep you focused and on track until the job is done.

Remember: Getting organized isn't just about cleaning up the clutter or managing your time better. It's about creating the life you want.
